Biography

From Kenmare to the 3Arena

Born 22 January 2003 and associated with Kenmare and Tralee in County Kerry, Liam began boxing at nine or ten — his father, Barry Walsh, had been head coach at King's Heath Boxing Club in England and later coached at Sliabh Luachra in Castleisland. He reports 42 amateur bouts and 37 wins, including Box Cup and Munster successes and appearances in national finals. (Amateur figures are self-reported by the boxer in interview.)

He turned professional in 2021 during the COVID-era interruption to amateur boxing, debuting in Belfast that October. Early in his career he was identified with coach Tony Davitt and a three-year Carl Greaves Promotions deal; later coverage describes him as an Elite Promotions boxer. He has since fought in Ireland, Northern Ireland, England and Spain.

Challenging unbeaten Eoghan Lavin over eight scheduled rounds at the 3Arena, Dublin, Liam was stopped at 1:22 of round seven — his first defeat, and the current boundary of his development. The rebuild is planned around defence, stamina and composure at domestic-title pace.
